Alexander Kandelaki is born in Tbilisi (Georgia) and at the age of five enters the School of Music for Young Talents Z. Paliashvili, where he becomes an early pianist and soloist, giving his first concert at the age of six with the National Symphony Orchestra of Georgia. He finishes his higher and postgraduate studies with the highest qualifications in the “V.Saradjishvili” Conservatory in Tbilisi, being direct pupils of Neuhaus and Goldenweiser among his teachers.
It is worth mentioning that his whole professional career has been greatly influenced by pianist Nino Kereselidze, with whom he played as a four-handed duet for several years.
Between 1995 and 1998 he studies in the Queen Sofía College of Music (Madrid) with a scholarship from the Isaac Albéniz Foundation, where he attends classes from Dimitri Bashkirov, Galina Egyazarova and Marta Gulyas, together with classes given by masters like Vitaly Margulys and Menahem Pressler.
He has given concerts -both as soloist and chamber musician in important festivals in Georgia, Russia, Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland and Belgium. He has also made recordings for Spanish State Radio RNE. In 2003 he recorded a CD with cellist Pablo de Naverán which earned him the year’s Best Recording Award from RNE’s program “Clásicos populares” (dedicated to traditional classics).
Since 1998 he works as a piano teacher in the High Conservatory of Badajoz, filling the position formerly occupied by Extremaduran excellent pianist Esteban Sánchez. He also gives higher education and postgraduate classes in the said centre. From 2001 he gives classes in the International Music School from de Lucena (Córdoba), as well as master postgraduate courses in the University of A Coruña, “New Music Generation” in Burgos and Segovia, International University of Andalusia (Jaén) and many other advanced courses in several places in Spain. He has been part of the jury of several national and international contests.
