Born in Gijon, he studied violin with such teachers as Alfonso Ordieres, Francisco Comesaña, Dorothy Delay, Raphael Bronstein and Felix Andrievsky at the Oviedo Music School, the Royal Music School in Madrid, the Manhattan School of Music, the Juilliard School of Music and the Royal College of Music.
He has performed as an orchestra soloist, giving recitals in Spain, France, Germany, England, Portugal, the United States, Canada, South America and Japan. He has also appeared at a number of music festivals including the Aspen Music Festival (U.S.A), the Academie Internationale de Musique in Tours (France), the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival (Germany) and the Tuy Chamber Music Festival.
Since 1993, he has been a member of the Reina Sofia Chamber Orchestra. His interest in contemporary music has also seen him play with the Galician Contemporary Art Centre’s Contemporary Music Ensemble, performing the works of such composers as Sciarrino, Lindberg, Hosokawa, Pang-Pang, Murai, Dalbavie, Zinsstag and Gervasoni for the first time in Spain. His repertoire also features numerous Spanish compositions by Montsalvatge, Marine, Marco, C. Halffter, Brotons and Lopez Lopez, to name but a few.
In 1990, he won the XXVII edition of the Isidro Gyenes Violin Competition and has recorded performances for Spain’s Radio Nacional.
e has worked at the Reina Sofia Higher Music School and is currently teaching at the Higher Royal Music School in Madrid, as well as giving courses throughout Spain. He is also a guest teacher at the Wagner Youth Festival in Bayreuth. Many of his students have won international awards and are now employed by some of Spain’s leading orchestras and music schools.
